Urban Design
Urban design is the crucial middle scale between large-scale planning and the design of individual sites. Urban design frameworks organize and guide the efforts of designers and developers of public space and individual private parcels so that these works contribute to the larger collective task of community building. Neighborhood or campus plans, block patterns, and design guidelines are among the tools we develop to address this middle scale.
We believe that development patterns are most
successful when they acknowledge the vital function of public space networks, environmental systems, building typologies, and the many economic factors that affect them.
